Short answers to the questions we are asked most.

Booking a guide

How do I book a guide?

Open a guide profile, choose Request booking, and give your dates and group size. The guide accepts or declines, and you are notified either way. Nothing is charged through TripMate.

When can I leave a review?

Once the guide marks your tour completed. Each completed booking can be reviewed once, which is why every review carries a verified booking badge.

Can I cancel a request?

A pending request can simply be declined by either side. For a confirmed booking, contact the guide directly through the enquiry thread.

Working with agencies

How is a quotation different from a booking?

You send requirements, the agency replies with a structured offer including inclusions, exclusions, and validity. A confirmed booking is only created when you accept.

Can I get quotes from several agencies?

Yes. Send a request to each agency you are considering; each replies separately and you compare them side by side under Quotations.

What if an offer expires?

Offers can carry a validity date. After it passes you cannot accept it, but you can ask the agency for a fresh quote.

Planning and budgets

How do I plan with friends?

Open a trip and invite people by email. Editors can add and change itinerary items; viewers can only read. Permissions are enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface.

Do changes appear immediately for everyone?

The planner checks for updates periodically and refreshes when something changes. It pauses while your tab is in the background to stay light on shared hosting.

How does the budget planner work?

Set a total, the number of travellers, and how many days. TripMate suggests a split by category, then you record planned and actual amounts and it tracks the difference.

Can I split costs?

Yes. Any expense can be split across named people, and TripMate tracks who has settled. The parts always add up exactly to the expense amount.

Account and privacy

Is “Ask TripMate” a real AI?

No. It is a static helper that answers a short list of common questions right in your browser. It does not use an AI provider and does not read your personal data.

Who can see my trips?

Only you and the people you invite. A share link, if you enable one, gives read-only access to the itinerary and never exposes collaborator details.

How do I change my password?

Profile settings, then Change password. You need your current password, and updating it signs out other devices.
